Refund policy

Red Dirt Mushrooms sells liquid cultures, grain spawn, and sawdust spawn. Because these are living biological materials that can be damaged, contaminated, or altered after delivery, we do not accept returns.

Customers should not mail products back to us unless we specifically request it in writing. Unauthorized returns may be refused and will not automatically qualify for a refund.

1. Refunds and Replacements

When an eligible issue is supported by reasonable proof, Red Dirt Mushrooms may offer:

  • A replacement of the affected product
  • A refund for the affected product
  • Store credit, if the customer agrees.

We will determine the appropriate remedy based on the circumstances, product availability, shipping conditions, and the evidence provided.

A customer may receive only one remedy for each affected item.

2. Issues That May Qualify

A refund or replacement may be offered when:

  • The wrong product was shipped
  • An item was missing from the shipment
  • The product or its packaging was materially damaged during shipping
  • A liquid culture syringe or container arrived leaking or broken
  • Grain spawn or sawdust spawn arrived with visible contamination
  • A liquid culture, grain spawn, or sawdust spawn appears contaminated or nonviable, and the customer provides reasonable proof
  • The product was materially different from the product ordered
  • Another defect was present when the product was delivered.

Differences in normal appearance, color, density, mycelial growth pattern, colonization speed, or settling do not necessarily mean that a product is defective.

3. Claim Deadlines

Claims should be submitted within the following periods:

Shipping damage, missing items, or incorrect products

Contact us within 48 hours after delivery.

Suspected contamination or viability issues

Contact us within 14 calendar days after delivery.

Claims submitted after the applicable deadline may be denied because product condition, storage, handling, and use become more difficult to verify over time.

4. Proof Required

To request a refund or replacement, email adam@reddirtmushrooms.com with:

  • The customer’s name
  • The order number
  • The affected product
  • The product label, lot number, or batch number, when available
  • Clear photographs or video showing the issue
  • Photographs of the shipping box and packaging when shipping damage is involved
  • The delivery date
  • The date the issue was first noticed
  • A description of how the product was stored
  • A brief description of how the product was handled or used, when relevant.

For a contamination or viability claim, we may reasonably request additional photographs, video, or information about storage temperatures, sterile technique, inoculation materials, or incubation conditions.

We do not normally require the product to be returned. Please retain the affected product and packaging until the claim has been resolved.

5. Issues That Generally Do Not Qualify

A refund or replacement generally will not be offered for:

  • Improper storage after delivery
  • Freezing, overheating, or prolonged exposure after the package was delivered
  • Use of unsterile equipment, substrate, containers, work areas, or techniques
  • Contamination introduced after opening or inoculation
  • Failure caused by unsuitable substrate, moisture, temperature, airflow, or incubation conditions
  • Failure to follow product instructions
  • Use after the recommended storage or use period
  • Normal biological variation
  • Slow colonization by itself
  • Failure to achieve a particular yield, colonization time, fruiting result, or commercial outcome
  • A customer changing their mind
  • A customer ordering the wrong species, strain, size, or product
  • An incorrect or incomplete shipping address supplied by the customer
  • A package left outdoors or unattended after confirmed delivery
  • Products used for an unlawful or unintended purpose.

We will review each claim fairly based on the information available.

6. Cultivation Results

Liquid cultures and mushroom spawn are living biological materials. Cultivation results depend on many conditions outside our control, including sterile technique, substrate preparation, temperature, moisture, equipment, contamination exposure, storage, and the customer’s experience.

We do not guarantee:

  • Successful inoculation
  • A specific colonization speed
  • A specific yield
  • Fruiting success
  • Commercial results
  • Compatibility with every substrate or cultivation method

This limitation does not prevent a customer from submitting a supported claim that the product itself was defective when delivered.

7. Shipping Costs

When we approve a replacement because of our error or a covered product issue, we will normally pay the standard shipping cost for the replacement.

When we approve a refund, the refund will normally cover the price paid for the affected product.

Original shipping charges may be refunded when the entire order was incorrect, damaged, or defective because of our error.

Expedited shipping charges are generally not refundable beyond the cost of standard shipping.

8. Refund Processing

Approved refunds will be issued to the original payment method unless another arrangement is agreed to in writing.

Banks and payment providers may take additional time to post a refund after we process it.

9. Replacements

A replacement:

  • Is subject to product and strain availability
  • May be a substantially equivalent product if the original item is unavailable and the customer agrees
  • Will be shipped to the address on the original order unless we approve a change
  • Does not restart or extend the claim period for unrelated issues

10. Order Cancellations

Orders may be canceled before fulfillment by contacting adam@reddirtmushrooms.com.

We cannot guarantee cancellation after an order has entered production, inoculation, packaging, or shipping.

Made-to-order or inoculated products may not be cancellable after preparation begins.

If we cancel an unshipped order, we will issue the appropriate refund to the original payment method.

11. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

Please contact us before starting a payment dispute so we have an opportunity to review and resolve the issue.

Nothing in this policy limits any rights that cannot be limited under applicable consumer-protection rules.
